夏野剛特別審査員長 全体講評

This year, we expanded the entry to Asian countries. Having Asia Round in Thailand, the contest became upgraded more than ever. MICHIBIKI signal is available in entire Asia region. Judging entries from other Asian countries were very challenging for us as there were many ideas that we would not see in Japan. With judges from overseas, our discussion for the judgement had been exciting for all the judges. We had received so many great ideas from the finalists. Their ideas are for various categories, that is also a challenging part at judgement. Moreover, the phase of the presented idea varies. Some are at initial phase and some are at experimentation. Before we go into awarding, I would like to emphasize that all the finalists should be proud of themselves being here today. Being the finalists is to be cerebrated itself. Be proud of yourself, we wish our best luck to your further activities.

Idea Outline This is wearable sense wear that can be put into shoes and supports the walking of visually impaired people.
It can guide to the destination with avoiding dengerous places such as car roadways by high-accuracy correction by applying automatic driving localization technology in addittion to GNSS potion information including MICHIBIKI (QZSS). It is realized by the vibration inside the shoe which is suitable for their pain and various constraints.
Comment of Judge This might sound new to many, but Japan is quite advanced in technological solutions for people with disabilities. Japan is an issue-advanced country having various social problems to solve as we see in aging population. We award this idea for Grand Prize expecting to see many other solutions will come out utilizing space and IT technology.
Comment of Winner We have 4 members in a team, and each one has been working on this as side activity having a primary job. This prize means a lot for us accelerating our activities in that environment. Our strength is definitely making the idea into reality. We keep on trying with the team.
S-Booster has its theme in space, and our idea should sound the least space. By utilizing Japan's space assets, we keep our challenge to reach out to various people on the earth.

Special Judges' Prize

* Special Judges' Prize should go to 1 idea, due to our very intensive discussion, so we decided to award 2 ideas for Special Judges' Prize.

Lead Mentor: Noriaki OZAKI (TX Entrepreneur Partners)
Sub Mentor: Norishige HAYAKAWA (HAGAMINOMORI Design)
Special Mentor: Daisuke MOSAKA (Mori Hamada & Matsumoto)

Idea Outline We will develop a balloon called Tenku 25000 by 2021 to realize space travel.
Tenkuu 25000 carries 5 people and flies at an altitude of 25000 m.
This height is where you can see the universe and look down on the earth.
The flight time is 4 hours and the boarding fee is 1 million yen per person.
This manned space excursion balloon will provide the safest, safest and most accessible space travel without training.
Comment of Judge First, for Iwaya Giken, they count on the safety of the idea taking a balloon into the space. Especially, commercializing this in Japan means a lot for the tourism that the whole world is expecting space-related ideas. Also we hope commercialization of this idea launch from Japan while there are many worldwide competitors.

Green fuel for propulsion of spacecraft for sustainable and safe space exploration

Team Name: Manastu Space / Representative: Tushar JADHAV (India)
Lead Mentor: Keisuke IDE (The University of Tokyo Edge Capital (UTEC))
Sub Mentor: Noriaki OZAKI (TX Entrepreneur Partners)

Idea Outline Last time when humans landed on the moon, it was by using a fuel called Hydrazine which is as toxic as cyanide. People have died handling it. Hence US and Europe are banning it by 2021 and has less performance. While going to Mars, this fuel will propel the spacecraft and produce oxygen, water and heat, 3 life essential ingredients.
Comment of Judge For Manatsu Space, there should be various challenges on the way ahead, but when this idea comes into practical use, not only efficiency in energy cost presented today, but huge progress the entire space industry should embrace. This technology had been in use in India, but we expect to see this worldwide.

Key technology is image analysis of both tourists' residence and their touring sites in Japan. Tourists in Japan will have best travel plans from the outer space and tourism in suburban areas in Japan will be revitalized.
Comment of Judge This is the 3rd year of our sponsorship. Last 2 ANA HOLDINGS Prizes had not yet come to business commercialization unfortunately. So this is our third time's the charm. We are here with strong preparation that we would quit sponsorship if the idea we award would not become real business. Prize winning theme is regional revitalization, which is one of ANA's biggest challenge too. Also, from women's empowerment perspective, we would like to seek the collaborations with female cabin crew in more than 8,000 ANA crew for practical business development. We try hard for the business commercialization.

Comment of Judge OBAYASHI CORPORATION is aiming at the Space Elevator Construction in 2050. The prize winning idea is to launch a balloon from the ground to an altitude of 25km for sightseeing and come back on the ground. This idea is a great reference to one of our goals in the journey to accomplish the Space Elevator. As a panel talk presenter ASTROCEAN, S-Booster 2018 OBAYASHI CORPORATION Prize winner, we believe these great ideas sharing the same goals with us will enhance utilization of space development step by step. We continue our efforts in space development.

"SORANO" Space agriculture project using Designer Soil

Team Name: TOWING. / Representative: Kohei NISHIDA
Lead Mentor:Ai NEMOTO (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC))
Sub Mentor: Mizuki KOMASA (Real Tech Fund), Tsutomu IIJIMA (CO-WORKS)
Special Mentor: Tetsuji ODAN (Mori Hamada & Matsumoto)

Idea Outline We will prepare for food production demand on the Moon and Mars by establishing a recyclable farming method using "Designer-Soil technology" that adds soil function to porous carriers.
We also meet the demand for building a sustainable agricultural system on the planet. Therefore, we establish "SORANO" labs that connects farmers, companies, and research institutions to deliver sustainable and delicious vegetables to consumers in the earth and space.
Comment of Judge SKY Perfect JSAT is about to start establishing a broadcast studio on the International Space Station (ISS) cooperating with JAXA. There should be many things to see, think and tell from the outer space. Because of its closed ecosystem, we often say "ISS itself is a small earth". From that perspective, we believe broadcasting the growth processes of prize winning SORANO live should be interesting, although carrying the kits into the space requires JAXA's approval. We support them to step forward.
DIVE-Space Prize (DENSO CORPORATION)

DIVE-Space Prize (DENSO CORPORATION)
Water Assets Management System

Representative: Ryohei NAGANO
Lead Mentor: Akira YANAGIHARA (EDGEof, Inc.)
Sub Mentor: Harumi KATO (Innovative Venture Fund)

Idea Outline Rapid population growth and global warming raise the needs for groundwater enormously, but groundwater management is not being operated in many countries and regions resulting in no perspective to see when it runs out. In other words, "groundwater = ticking bomb without timer". By utilizing satellite data and detention period of groundwater, we aim at reasonable and easy water source exploration, and sustainable management of groundwater.
Comment of Judge DENSO is an automobile components supplier and we think about business from solution oriented point of view. The prize winning idea challenges water supply issue that global societies face with utilizing remote sensing data that we focus. This is why we are awarding this idea.
JAL Prize

JAL Prize
Satellite Re-use Market

Team Name: Opportunity / Representative: Chiaki ICHIKAWA
Lead Mentor: Hide AOKI (Global Brain Corporation)
Sub Mentor: Kengo ITO (01STUDIO Inc.)
Special Mentor: Daisuke MOSAKA (Mori Hamada & Matsumoto)

Idea Outline Space devices require quite high reliability engineering. This results in longer operating life span of themselves, which raises an urgent issue of utilization of old models when new high function models come out. We propose new satellite utilization by creating second-hand satellite market. Aiming at available and low-cost satellite supply will drive new entries in the market and give asset value to the second-hand satellites.
Comment of Judge Prize winning idea was quite simple to understand and also inspirational at the first glance. Especially we agree with the idea of resource circulation and "keep re-using" in society. One of JAL policies is to contribute to social innovations. Also, recent years we call for "Realistic Innovations", just as prize winning idea reminds us, re-using is a great advantage of Japan. We support this idea from that perspective too.
POLA ORBIS HOLDINGS Prize

POLA ORBIS HOLDINGS Prize
Space Spice factory (Manufacturing high-value added materials in space factory)

Team Name: Work Dock Inc. / Representative: Masaru KOGA
Lead Mentor: Kenichi UCHIDA (Micro Manufacturing Association)
Sub Mentor: Kenji YOSHIDA (Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN)
Special Mentor: Tomonari YAMASAKI (Uchida & Samejima Law Firm)

Idea Outline By utilizing microgravity in orbit, we produce materials which are "ultimately difficult to produce under the gravity" and "much more profitable than transporting costs to the space". For that, we aim at cost reduction by establishing small production system along orbit. Aiming to lead the humans to the outer space, just like spices back in the Age of Discovery, we named this "Space Spice factory".
Comment of Judge As you know, our company make cosmetic products. We had developed various effective ingredients represented by anti-aging skin care series. I was listening to the presentation imaging "what if we develop anti-aging ingredient in the space, what kind of material we have?" or "how the skin care cream made in space would be?" We hope to collaborate with this idea for keep producing exciting cosmetics.
JAXA Prize

JAXA Prize
Sharing Environmental Experiment Space on the Earth (SEESE)

Team Name:SEESE from ABLab / Representative: Kazuhisa TANADA
Lead Mentor: Masayasu ISHIDA (A.T. Kerney Inc.)
Sub Mentor: Hiromi KUROKAWA (Marubeni Corporation)
Special Mentor:Tetsuji ODAN (Mori Hamada & Matsumoto)

Idea Outline We propose a service that manages the nationwide environmental testing sites for small/micro satellites on a single web platform. This allows you to schedule all tests you need, estimate costs with simple operation, and get total supports including providing human resources for the test.
For further development of Japan's space industry, it is important to reduce the barriers such as a complexity of environmental tests for satellites business players.
Comment of Judge This year, JAXA selected a business idea which utilizes our technologies and data. We know that there are some field that are not profitable, but must be embraced to positively influence the society. The idea of sharing testing facilities could be a foundation for companies and organizations which are trying to enter the space industry. This model should be exactly the seeds for them. We welcome this challenging topic, and we hope that our technologies and facilities will be utilized by many.
